Genevieve “Gen” Nygaard, 87, of 7647 27.75 Road, Rapid River, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. She was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Phelps, Wis., and was the daughter of Clarence and Bertha Fredrickson. The former Genevieve Fredrickson married Otto T. Nygaard on March 25, 1951, in New Troy, Mich. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Stonington until their retirement. The couple moved to Rapid River in 2003 and Otto passed away on Dec. 31, 2007. Genevieve enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

Genevieve “Gen” Nygaard is survived by: two sons, Harold (Diana) Nygaard of Dowagiac, Mich., and Carl Nygaard of Rapid River; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

A family gathering in Genevieve’s honor will take place later this summer. Burial will take place in the Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington.
