James “Jim” Edward Buckland, age 79, of Cornell, MI, passed away Wednesday evening, July 14, 2021 at home in Cornell. He was born on October 6, 1941 in Escanaba, the son of Carl Iver and Bertha Jane (Wilson) Buckland. Jim was raised in Escanaba and was a 1960 graduate of Escanaba High School. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army on September 7, 1960 and served in Fort Carson, CO until he was honorably discharged on September 6, 1962. He married the former Rosemary LaVigne on May 6, 1961 in Schaffer, MI and she preceded him in death on January 24, 1995. Together, the couple shared 33 years of marriage. Jim began his working career in construction and was employed as a mason with the Bricklayers Union until his retirement in 2003. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors – especially fishing and gardening.
Jim is survived by his children, Dawn, Gwen, Rose, Jim, Bart, and Eric; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Laverne, Audrey, Chuck, Dave, and John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by sisters, Betty and Carol.
Private family graveside services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba with burial to follow.
