William Swenson, son of the Reverend Birger and Glady’s Swenson, grew up in Escanaba. Bill was extremely proud of his Michigan roots. He passed away November 14, 2022 in New York City, where he had lived for 45 years. Bill is survived by his sister, Bev Schultz (St. Petersburg, FL) and his brother, Robert Swenson (Pisa, Italy). Family was always a priority to Bill.
Prior to his graduation in 1962, Bill ran cross country and excelled on the debate team at Escanaba Area High School. He deeply valued attending high school class reunions. As a child he developed his love for fishing on Lake Michigan and extended that hobby to his many outings on the waters in Minnesota, the Poconos, and the Caribbean. After graduating from Bethel University in Saint Paul, MN, Bill went on to earn his Master’s Degree from John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He enjoyed his banking career with Citibank, and later the Federal Reserve Bank. During the past two decades, Bill was a passionate professor of economics at universities in the NYC metro area.
He will be buried at the Gardens of Rest Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2023.
