Wendy Sue Hatala, age 69, of Escanaba passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at her home in Escanaba. She was born August 3, 1956, in Indiana and was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Gardner) Viau. Wendy grew up in Wells, MI, graduated from Escanaba High School in 1974, and then attended Bay de Noc Community College. Wendy owned and operated Escanaba Marine, a food supply company, suppling food to the ore boats in the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Wendy enjoyed golfing, shooting pool and was a member of the Delta Co. Women’s Pool league and Players De Noc. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed a good time and had many Friends. Wendy married Terry Hatala on February 7, 2000, in Escanaba.
Wendy is survived by husband Terry; grandchildren Marcus Fassbender and Ecko Fassbender, and Cheyenne Dolaskie; Mother Margaret (Steve) Nault of Escanaba; brothers Joe Viau San Diego, CA and Chuck (Ann) Viau Escanaba; sister Candy (Todd) Benoit of Wells, step daughter Whitney Hatala Menominee; step grandchild Legend of Menominee; Mother-in-law Kay Helmuth Menominee; sister-in-law Stacey Hatala Marquette and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sons David and Brian Fassbender.
Private family services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Wendy’s last words. GOOD BYE!
