Trudy Kay Flath, age 83, of Portage Point in Escanaba, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 4, 2022 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River. Trudy was born on March 17, 1939 in Escanaba, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Rose) Mileski. She was raised and attended school in Escanaba where she graduated with the Class of 1957. The former Trudy Mileski married Harold W. Flath on July 18, 1964 in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2015. Together, the couple shared 50 years of marriage and raised one son, Steve. Trudy began her working career as a teacher’s aide in special education at Jefferson Elementary School in Escanaba. She then was employed with MFC Bank in Escanaba in the bookkeeping department until her retirement. Harold and Trudy were longtime members of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Escanaba. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed riding her bike, reading, exercising in her younger years, and living on Lake Michigan on Portage Point. Trudy also looked forward to social gatherings and meeting up with friends for coffee.
Trudy is survived by her son, Steve Flath (Denise Hughes) of Escanaba; grandchildren, Jesse Flath of Escanaba and Anthony Flath of Escanaba; siblings, Mike (Carol) Mileski of Negaunee, MI, John (Terri) Mileski of Escanaba, and Kathy Rehler of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Pam Mileski of Escanaba; brother-in-law, Jon (Barb) Flath of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Trudy was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Mileski.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Trudy will follow at 2:30 p.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Doletzky officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral services in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
