Terry William Mulvaney

Terry William Mulvaney, age 67, of Mattawan, MI, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022, at his home. He was born on September 22, 1955 in Escanaba, MI, the son of William (Bill) and Jane (Anderson) Mulvaney. Terry was raised and attended school in Escanaba where he graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1973. He went on to attend Bay College and graduated from Western Michigan University. Terry married Stephanie VanderStraaten on October 21, 2006 in Mattawan, MI.

Terry loved life and almost everyone he met, making friends wherever he was. He was a lifelong Packer fan, cheering his team through the good times and bad, never missing a game. He was also a lifelong fan of The Andy Griffith Show. Terry would often quote stories and witticisms from the citizens of Mayberry. The show was his favorite and he never questioned if he should “nip it in the bud.” While Barney always had his bullet, Terry always had a good joke and enjoyed laughter more than anything in life. He was a hoot as all his friends could attest, although many of those friends were of questionable repute. Terry loved golf and was a very good player, winning league and individual championships. He would jump at any chance to play 18 holes, but his true talents would emerge on the 19th hole, a hole Terry played well and often. He will be missed as a golf partner, teammate, and a friend.

Terry is survived by his wife, Stephanie of Mattawan, MI; children, Arin Mulvaney of Chicago, IL, Ian Mulvaney of Phoenix, AZ, Jacob (Natalie) Mulvaney of Mattawan, MI, Jeff VanderStraaten (Michelle Weemhoff) of Portage, MI, and Jason (Alicia) VanderStraaten of Vicksburg, MI; grandchildren, Ella, Grace, Tim, and Logan; mother, Jane Mulvaney of Escanaba; brother Tim (Debbie) Mulvaney of Shepherd, MI; nephews and nieces, Michael (Nichole) Krueger of Gladstone, Molly Mulvaney of Lansing, and Alex (Katie) Mulvaney of Plymouth MI; and Stephanie’s parents, Don and Joanne Cole of Mattawan, MI.

Terry was preceded in death by his beloved father, William (Bill) Mulvaney; and aunts, Marian Mulvaney, Anna Carlson, and Helen Anderson.

In accordance with Terry’s wishes, private family funeral services were held.
