Sylvia J. Johnson

Sylvia J. Johnson, age 81, of Wells, MI passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Wells. She was born January 25, 1943 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and was the daughter of Clarence and Nettie (Michael) Hewett. Sylvia graduated from Berkeley Springs High School with the class of 1962. On April 29, 1966 the former Sylvia J. Hewett married James H. Johnson at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. Sylvia was an excellent cook and was known for her pasties and her famous Sylvia’s Sassy Salsa which she would make over 300 pints every year to share with family and friends. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and crafting. Spending time with family was very important to Sylvia.

Sylvia is survived by husband James Johnson; sons James “Steve: (Kay) Johnson of Schaffer, MI and Erik (Diane) Johnson of Hyde; daughter Misti Erickson of Wells; 10 grandchildren; Nicholas Isotalo, Joshua Yeast, Torrie Seffens, Joshua Isotalo, Khara Sleik, Brody Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, Kaylin Vandermissen, Kyle Dowd, and Olivia Erickson; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Joan Werdebaugh of Summerfield, FL and Eva Little of Rushville IN and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Fields and Nancy Hewett and brother Ray Hewett.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Sylvia J. Johnson will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.
