Shirley Ann Lewis

Shirley Ann Lewis, age 77, of Wells, passed away Thursday morning, February 2, 2023 at her home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born on February 13, 1945 in Rocky Mount, NC, the daughter of Jesse and Mary Lee (Sellers) Gay. Shirley was a graduate of West Edgecombe High School and later resided in Virginia Beach, VA and Boston, Massachusetts prior to moving to the Escanaba area in the late 60’s. For many years, Shirley worked at St. Francis Hospital, OSF, and later on in life, as a private care provider, comforting patients struggling with terminal illness.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Chad (April) Lewis and their two daughters, Ashley Palmer (Jack) and Brittney of Centennial, CO, and Darrin (Joyce) Lewis of Escanaba and their daughter, Mya; along with nieces and nephew Kim Peters, Sherry Sublett and Wayne Lee Gay.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her precious son, Todd; and her three brothers, John Sellers, Kenneth and Bruce Gay.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Shirley will follow at 12:00 p.m., Monday, with Rev. Mike Markwell officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
