Sandra Chapman Obituary

Sandra Lou Chapman, age 79, of Escanaba, passed away early Monday morning, April 4, 2022 at her home following a long chain of illnesses since 2013. She was born on March 24, 1943 in Mankato, MN, the daughter of Herbert and Sylvia (Knauss) Glaeser. Sandy was raised in Good Thunder, MN where she attended and graduated from high school. She went on to attend Mankato State University in Mankato, MN (now known as Minnesota State University) and graduated with her degree as a Trumpet Major in 1966. Throughout her career, Sandy taught band, chorus, and elementary music in the following school districts: Mishicot, WI, West Leyden, NY, Miami, FL, Powers, MI, and lastly Holy Name Catholic School before retiring to become a full-time mother. During her time in Miami, Sandy was a portrait artist at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, FL. The former Sandra Lou Glaeser married Eric Chapman on June 8, 1974 at First United Methodist Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 47 years as each other’s accompanist and raised 2 sons, Jonathan and Christopher. Sandy loved camping, symphony music, painting portraits, traveling, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, and graphic design. She also had a passion for caring for orphan wildlife as she raised many squirrels and raccoons. Sandy was strong in her faith as a longtime member of First United Methodist Church.

Sandra Lou Chapman is survived by her husband, Eric Chapman of Escanaba; sons, Jonathan (Heather) Chapman of Winfield, KS, and Christopher Chapman of Appleton, WI; grandson, Alex Chapman; sister, Beverly Heuchert of Lee’s Summit, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Sylvia Glaeser.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Sandra will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Escanaba with Rev. Ryan Low Edwardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Delta Animal Shelter or First United Methodist Church.
