Ruth J. Campbell, age 96, of Escanaba, was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born on August 30, 1925 in Escanaba, the daughter of Andrew and Ruth (Swanson) Johnson. Ruth was raised in Escanaba where she also attended school. She was employed with JC Penny’s for 5 years and later for Clairmont Transfer Co. for 17 years as their secretary. The former Ruth Johnson married David W. Campbell on October 20, 1962 in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on August 8, 2019. Together, the couple shared 56 years of marriage. David built their home in Cornell in 1963 and they lived there until 2014 when they relocated to Escanaba. Ruth and David were longtime residents of Cornell. She was strong in her faith and served as pianist, Sunday School teacher, and committee member at Calvary Baptist Church for many years.
Ruth is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Erickson, Lillian Hansen, and Elvera Kickbusch; and brother, Lloyd Johnson.
Private funeral services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with Pastor Jay Gilchrist as the officiant. Burial took place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
