Roy David LaCarte, Jr., 47, of Gladstone, Michigan peacefully passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba after a long battle of small cell lung cancer.
Born on June 3, 1979, in Escanaba, Roy was the son of Roy David LaCarte, Sr. and Ethel Jean (Anderson) LaCarte. A dedicated and hardworking man, Roy spent many years in the roofing industry with B&J Contracting before working as a sand blaster and painter for Softek Contractual Partner at Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad.
Roy found his greatest happiness outdoors. Whether he was fishing for bass and walleye during the summer, ice fishing through the winter months, or cutting firewood, he appreciated the simple pleasures of life. He loved to ride and work on his ATVs and above all, cherished every opportunity to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, where he found both freedom and peace.
Roy's greatest pride was his son, Antonio LaCarte of Gladstone, whom he loved dearly and enjoyed doing outdoor activities with him. Roy lived with his father, Roy Lacarte Sr., whom he treasured and looked up to. He adored his dad and deeply appreciated his company.
He is survived by his father, Roy LaCarte, Sr. of Gladstone; his sisters, April (Darrell) Sexton of Escanaba and Ginny (Randy), Kurth of Deerfield, Wisconsin; along with nephews, aunts, and uncles who will fondly remember him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ethel Jean LaCarte, on March 9, 2019. A celebration of Roy's life will be held at a later date.
