Rose Gustafson Obituary

Rose M. Gustafson, age 99, of Escanaba, passed away Friday afternoon, August 28, 2020 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba where she has resided for the past year. She was born on May 10, 1921 in Escanaba, the daughter of Frank and Sophie (Podrebarac) Gersich. She was raised in Escanaba and has lived there her entire life. Rose attended and graduated from St. Joseph High School. The former Rose Gersich married Carl M. Gustafson on January 12, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2006. Together, the couple shared 60 years of marriage and raised two children, Richard and Darlene. In her early years, she was employed at Ely’s Potato Chip Company. Rose was a dedicated housewife, caring for her husband and children and also volunteered her time as a Girl Scout Leader. She loved to travel and even traveled from coast to coast with her son’s RV. Rose and Carl vacationed in Florida for many winters together. She greatly enjoyed the outdoors including camping and gardening – especially working with flowers. Rose was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba and a member of the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association. Family always came first as she was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all.

Rose M. Gustafson is survived by her son, Richard Gustafson; daughter, Darlene (Jerry) Weinrich; granddaughter, Erin (Jerry) Howard; sister-in-law, Therese Gersich; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by her siblings, Katherine Bakran, Barbara Mihalik, Frank Gersich, Nick Gersich, and Anna Ozimac.

Private funeral services will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with Father Rick Courier officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Bishop Noa Home for the care and compassion given to Rose.
