Robert J. Martin, age 90, of Escanaba, passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2018 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba. He was born on October 9, 1928 in Escanaba, the son of Romeo and Mabel (Farrell) Martin. Bob grew up in Escanaba and was a 1949 graduate of Escanaba High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 12, 1950 and served his country during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on October 23, 1952. After returning home, Bob began his 37-year career with Mead Paper Company where he worked with heavy equipment (front end loader in particular) in the woodyard. He married the former Mary Jane Johnson on January 4, 1964 in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2001. Together, the couple shared 37 years of marriage and raised one daughter, Martha. Bob was an avid Green Bay Packers fan who rarely missed watching a game. He also was proud to be a veteran and had the opportunity to go on the U.P Honor Flight. Bob was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba.
Robert J. Martin is survived by one daughter, Martha Martin of Escanaba; one sister, Betty LeDuc of Escanaba; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Martin.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert will follow at 11:00 a.m., Friday. Military Honors will also be conducted at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
