Robert A. Meyer

Robert A. Meyer, age 82, of Escanaba, passed away early Thursday morning, August 11, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. He was born on April 21, 1940 in Escanaba, the son of Lawrence and Helen (Janchenko) Meyer. Robert was raised in Escanaba where he also attended Escanaba High School. Following high school, he began working on equipment at Harnischfeger Corporation in Escanaba before going to work on road construction. He was employed with Fox Valley Construction Company for most of his working years and also worked for other independent construction contractors until his retirement in 2002. Robert married the former Karen Palmateer on April 7, 1961 at Calvary Baptist Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 62 years of marriage. Robert loved gardening and could fix anything that needed it. He also always looked forward to meeting up for morning coffee at McDonald’s during his retirement years. Robert was a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Local 324.

Robert is survived by his wife, Karen Meyer of Escanaba; son, Jeff (Tora) Meyer of Eagon, MN; grandchildren, Zildjian, Misha, Madeline, and Sean.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his son, James Meyer; and brother, Ken Meyer.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert will follow at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Swillum officiating. A luncheon will be held at the conclusion of the services in the Anderson Funeral Home Reception Room. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
