Richard Shervin Obituary

Richard “Dick” Shervin, age 75, of Gladstone, MI sadly passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021. Dick was born on December 8, 1945, to Bernice (Moreau) and Howard Shervin of Hagerstown Maryland. The family moved to Escanaba in 1956 when Dick was 11 years of age. Dick graduated from Escanaba Public High School in 1964 and was honorably discharged from the National Guard in 1967. He worked at The Delta Reporter, Birdseye Veneer in Escanaba, and 41 years of swing shift at Mead Paper Company where he made many life-long fiends. Dick lived a fulfilled life with his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandy (Matson) Shervin and two children. The two were inseparable, dedicated, and devoted to their family. Dick loved spending time with his family and friends. His desire to be at his cottage and later home on Round Lake was his dream come true. All were welcome at the Shervin’s where many cherished memories were made by all. Dick was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed hunting at Nelsons Hunting Camp and “Camp Bedrock” which held a special place in his heart. But his most cherished times were spent taking long, slow pontoon boat rides at Round Lake, proudly entertaining family and friends.

Many will remember Dick as a quick-witted soul with a sense of humor never to be surpassed with his “one liners.” Upon his retirement from Mead Paper, Dick became an active non-golfing member of the Irish Oakes Golf Club where he enjoyed the company of numerous beloved friends whom he spent time with, sharing stories and enjoying one another’s company. We will all miss a very social, kind, soft spoken, humorous and well-liked man.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Sandy (Matson) Shervin; son, Rick Shervin (grandson Jesse Shervin, and son Oakley); daughter, Justine Shervin (granddaughter Savannah, and children Channing, Elaina, Nikolas and Caroline and grandson Noah); sisters, Pam (Shervin) and husband Joe Jungles of Gladstone MI, and Darlene White of Hagerstown, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews of whom he dearly loved.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice (Moreau) and Howard Shervin; and brother-in-law, Robert White.
