Richard Seelund Obituary

Richard Iver Seelund, age 92, of Gladstone passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Murray’s Country View nursing home in Gladstone. He was born December 1, 1931 in Escanaba, MI and was the son of John and Ellen (Carlson) Seelund. He grew up in Foster City, graduated from Foster City High School and then was drafted into the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. During his service, Richard was a member of the Army Artillery Battalion.

After the war Richard moved to Chicago where he met, fell in love, and married Emma Lee Sandoval on August 27, 1960. They raised two children. Richard worked his entire career for the Xerox Corporation as a Copy Engineer. After his retirement, Richard moved back to Felch and later to Gladstone. Richard was an active member and chairman of the Felch-Breen VFW and the Gladstone American Legion Post #71. He was a proud veteran, an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening and you would never catch him without one of his many military caps on.

Richard is survived by his companion of 33 years, Katie Clairmont of Gladstone; daughter Rebecca Lee (Eric) of Crawfordville, FL; son Michael (Kimberly) of Aurora, CO, brother Robert (Karen) Seelund of Felch, MI; and six grandchildren, Gram, Claire, Annabel, Violet, Samuel and Magnus.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Lee and brother Roger Seelund.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Felch Cemetery with Chaplain Louis Hague officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Felch-Breen VFW with burial in the Felch Cemetery. A toast, in honor of Richard, will be held at Solberg’s Bar & Grill in Felch, following the service.
