Richard Haring Obituary

Richard “Dick” Haring, age 75, of Sycamore, IL (formerly of Escanaba, MI), passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 1, 2022. He was born June 9, 1947, in Escanaba, MI, to loving parents, Burt and Norma Haring. Dick grew up in Escanaba for only a few years before the family moved to Elburn, IL and attended local schools. He graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1965.

JoAnn Toppel was literally swept off her feet when she went dancing with Dick. Their hearts fell into step as well after a whirlwind courtship, were united in marriage on December 17, 1966.

Uncle Sam became a member of the family when Dick was drafted into the United States Army. They were stationed together in Germany for several years before returning stateside after an honorable discharge in 1969.

They began their new life in Elburn for a time before moving to Lily Lake. While Dick worked outside the house, JoAnn worked to make their house a home. They welcomed a son, Klentin, in 1970 and made their family complete when their daughter, Kelli, was born in 1972. In 1985, Dick and JoAnn went their separate ways, but Dick was lucky in love once again when he was united in marriage to Sandy in 1987, making memories until they too found their paths diverging.

Throughout it all, Dick worked in maintenance at Harris Bank, taking over for his dad when Burt stepped down. He also worked for Tin Cup Pass on the east side of St. Charles.Dick loved to go fishing and trap shooting and living his life outdoors. His collection of knives was impressive, as was his affinity for anything having to do with wolves. Dick had a fever to tinker with anything and everything, sometimes to the family’s frustration. Everything paled in comparison to the love he had for his grandchildren. He thought they were “the bee’s knees” and did anything he could to be by their side. It is with them that he leaves a legacy of love and laughter and millions of memories that will echo down the years.

He is survived by his children, Klent (Michelle) Haring and Kelli Larsen; four grandchildren, Eathon (Jennifer) Larsen, Logan Haring, Keagon Larsen, and Skylar Haring; two great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Lukas Larsen; three siblings, Dave (Melody) Haring, Daren (Lori) Haring, and Chris (Jim) Clausen; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Sandy Haring; and family of friends.

He now joins his parents, Burt and Norma Haring; a sister, Cheri Haring; sister-in-law, Donna Haring; and former wife, JoAnn Haring.
