Phyllis R. (Kurth) Vanderberg, 69, of Gladstone, MI, passed away early Christmas morning, December 25, 2020 at home surrounded by family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 22, 1951 in Escanaba, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Cousineau) Snow. Phyllis was raised and attended Escanaba High School. She was employed by Head Start for several years prior to working at Christian Park Village for 34 years. Phyllis worked full time until October 2020 when her diagnosis forced her into retirement. She enjoyed travelling to see her children and grandchildren and spending time with family. She also enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo, reading, and camping.
Phyllis R. Vanderberg is survived by sisters, Sharon Ernst of Texas, Jaynis (Steve) Kristich of Chicago, IL, and Penny (Paul) Snow–Myers of Escanaba; daughters, Lisa (Clayton) Christensen of Kingman, AZ, and Amber Vanderberg of Saint Albans, WV; sons, Daniel Kurth of Louisiana, Kevin Kurth of Gladstone, and Donald Kurth of Gladstone; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Ruth Snow; brothers, Frederick Snow and Donald Snow; and sister, Patricia Ammerman.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, with Father Fran DeGroot officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to give a big thank you to OSF Hospice who have been wonderful.
