Mauryne D. Christiansen, age 93, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on December 4, 2019. She was born on April 14, 1926, in Rapid River, Michigan, the only child of Curtis and Wilma Christiansen. Mauryne earned her nursing degree from Augustine Nursing Pediatric School in 1946. She worked as a pediatric nurse for many years before becoming a private care pediatric nurse and childcare provider for multiple families. Mauryne was passionate about caring for infants, and did so into her 70s. She continued to follow and stay involved in the lives of her charges for decades. Her care and devotion to these children endeared her to many families. Mauryne was also a loyal friend who enjoyed puzzles, walking and exercising her mind and body.
Mauryne is survived by cousins, Mae (LaFramboise) Moos of Thousand Oaks, California, Carol (LaFramboise) Jacobs of Granite Bay, California, Amber (Christiansen) Delvaux of Escanaba, Michigan, Greta (Christiansen) Strong of Saginaw, Michigan, Linda (Christiansen) Attar of Wolverine Lake, Michigan, Amy (Christiansen) Dyer and Ann (Christiansen) Bolek of Gladstone, Michigan, Mark Christiansen of Cornell, Michigan, Bonnie (Christiansen) Robertson of Lansing, Michigan, Ned Christiansen of Three Rivers, Michigan and Mary (Christiansen) Harkins of Houghton, Michigan. Mauryne was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Wilma Christiansen.
Mauryne was a life-long member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Rapid River, Michigan, a church founded by her ancestors. She regularly attended and participated in church life at LakeView Lutheran Church in Chicago.
A memorial service at Calvary Lutheran Church to be led by Pastor Stephen Gauger, and a graveside service at Rapid River Cemetery, Rapid River, Michigan, are being planned for a later date.
