Matthew “Dip” Lee Thomma, age 73, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2020 at home surrounded by family. He was born on May 31, 1947 in Escanaba, the son of Matthew and Marvel (Boyd) Thomma. Matthew was raised and attended school in Escanaba. He spent is working career as an all-around handyman. Matthew was a jack of all trades and worked many various jobs in the area. He married the former Linda Rose Deneau on June 4, 1976 and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2014. Together, the couple shared 37 years of marriage and raised 3 children, Amy, LeeAnn, and Justin. He later married the former Jeanette LaPalm Johnson on July 28, 2017. They shared nearly 3 years of marriage and created wonderful memories together. Matthew enjoyed playing dartball and English darts, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked going to the casino, being outdoors – especially hunting, fishing, and doing yardwork, and enjoyed listening to old country music.
Matthew Lee Thomma is survived by his wife, Jeanette Thomma of Escanaba; his children, Amy Thomma, LeeAnn Thomma (special friend, Mike Anderson), and Justin Thomma; grandchildren, Robert Donalds, Bryan Donalds, Haylee Donalds, Gabby Thomma, Logan Thomma, and Lilly Thomma; brothers, Norman (Jeanette) Thomma, Virgil (Lucy) Thomma, Melvin Thomma, Joseph Thomma, Rodney (Annette) Thomma, and Buck (Linda) Thomma; sisters Bernice Thomma, Gail (Jim) Hart, and Sherry Thomma; sisters-in-law, Jody Profit, Joanne (Steve) Sullivan, and Joy LaPalm (special friend, Scott Nelson); special cousins, Paulette and Joe Dolan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Matthew was preceded in death by his siblings, Shirley, Edward, and Delphine; and first mother-in-law, Marie Deneau.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the Escanaba Township Cemetery in Flat Rock with Pastor Bill Rafuse officiating.
