Mary E. Hurkman

Mary Elaine Hurkman, age 80, of Arnold, MI, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. She was born on April 16, 1941 in Ishpeming, MI, the daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Sakal) Armatti. Mary graduated from Gwinn High School. On April 14, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Hurkman, Jr. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Northland, MI. Jimmy preceded her in death on September 2, 2007. Together, the couple shared 46 years of marriage and made their home in Arnold, MI with their 4 daughters and 1 son. Mary worked at the VanDamme French Fry Factory in Watson, MI for many years. She loved to do things with her family and most of all with her husband. They went on many bus tours to country music shows with her friends and family and she also loved to go camping. In her younger years, Mary was a leader in 4-H club and PTC at school and also at church. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Hurkman is survived by her children, Lori (Mike) Lynch of Arnold, MI, Tim Hurkman of Gladstone, MI, Lynn (Bruce) Plourde of Cornell, MI, Lisa (Mike) Hurkman of Escanaba, MI, and Leslie (Bill) Mattson of Hyde, MI; step-mother, Bonnie Hurkman of Escanaba, MI; sister-in-law, Tina (Roger) Hiironen of Northland, MI; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Armatti; and great-grandson, Hayden Lynch.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Light snacks and refreshments will be served during the time of visitation. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, with Father Fran DeGroot officiating. Burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Northland, MI. The family would like to thank Pinecrest Medical Care Facility for all of their wonderful care for Mary and a special thank you to her granddaughter, Candace, for her special care through these difficult times.
