Martha Lee Thompson of Escanaba, Michigan, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Christian Park Heathcare Center, Escanaba, MI.
Martha was born on February 21, 1933, to James and Kathryn (Horton) Moran in Evanston, Illinois. She was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School. Martha attended Northern Michigan University and graduated from Eastern Michigan with a bachelor's degree.
For most of her life, Martha was a caring and compassionate care worker until she retired at 70. She was always a faithful servant to her Lord and devoted member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Martha loved watching game shows, Lawrence Welk, and football—especially Michigan and the Packers! She also enjoyed word search puzzles, playing cards and dice.
Martha is survived by her sons Warren (Wanda) Thompson and Gregory Thompson of Escanaba; daughter-in-law Beverly Thompson of Escanaba; grandson John Thompson of Muskegon, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, dear friends, and other beloved members of her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; stepfather John Mitchell; son Michael Thompson; daughter-in-law Vicki Thompson; brother James B. Moran; and sisters Sue Schram and Nancy Larson.
There will be a time of visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 500 Ogden Avenue, Escanaba, MI 49829. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
