Marilyn A. (Zuchowski) Slade, age 87, of Escanaba, MI, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born in Ironwood, MI on August 28, 1934. She resided there until 1938 when the family moved to Gile, WI. Marilyn was the daughter of Angeline and Bernard Zuchowski. She went to school in Gile, WI for 3 years and Montreal School for 1 year. She then attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Hurley, WI for 5 years and graduated from Hurley High School in 1952. On November 2, 1957, she married Erwood (Erv) Slade at the Wesley Methodist Church in Ironwood, MI and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2013. Together, the couple shared 55 years of marriage. The couple relocated to Escanaba where they were members of First United Methodist Church. Marilyn joined the Eastern Star of Michigan in May of 1969, she was a Grand Committee member from 1993 to 1994, was Grand Warder for the State of Michigan from 1994 to 1995, was Cloverland District Association President in 1995, and also the president of the Four-Leaf Clover Club. Marilyn worked at the Red Owl Store, enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, gardening, fishing, going to camp, cooking, baking, and babysitting. Her family was her entire life and she was very proud of them and all of their accomplishments.
Marilyn A. Slade is survived by sons, Gary K. Slade of Escanaba, and Dale K. (Sandra) Slade of Fort Leavenworth, KS; grandsons, Hunter and Mason Slade; brothers-in-law, Robert Slade of Escanaba, and Russ Slade of AK; 2 nieces; and 1 nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Bruneau; brothers, Zennon Zuchowski and Eugene Zuchowski; sister-in-law, Rose Zuchowski; niece, Susanne Zuchowski; and nephew, Patrick Zuchowski.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral Services celebrating the life of Marilyn will follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan and Elise Low Edwardson co-officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the Anderson Funeral Home reception room. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
