Margery Dawn LaFave Obituary

Margery “Dawn” LaFave passed away June 9, 2020 at U.P. Health System - Marquette after a courageous battle with valvular heart disease.

Dawn was born in Royal Oak, MI on November 30, 1961 and grew up in Grand Marais, MI where she graduated high school and made life-long friends. She later received an Associate’s Degree from Bay College and most recently worked as a Teacher’s Aid. She especially enjoyed her work with young children and teaching them to read. Dawn married her best friend Mitchell LaFave on December 17, 1999. She loved gardening, baking, animals and mastering NY TIMES Crossword Puzzles and was considered an expert. Since the Covid-19 Pandemic, she enjoyed volunteering with food distribution at Gladstone High School. Mostly, Dawn cherished the time she spent with her family and her 8 grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Mitch, and their son, Dylan. Two other sons, Jeffery (Nicole) Perry, and Jeremy (Heidi) Perry who also live in the Upper Peninsula; grandchildren, Ethan, Lyla, Audrey, Ariana, Gabriel, Skylar, Connor, and Isabella; mother, Margery Thompson resides in Escanaba, MI; surviving siblings are Karen Evans of Ann Arbor, MI, John “Tom” (Kelly) Thompson of Oxford, MI, Christopher (Marilyn) Thompson of Canton, MI, William (Lee) Thompson, and Robin (Bart) Sewell, of Hobe Sound, FL.

Dawn was the sixth of seven Thompson children and was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Dale Anne  Beaver; and her father, John “Douglas/Doug” Thompson.

Plans for a private memorial service are planned for a later date. In lieu of gifts, the family asks to please consider a donation to No Kid Hungry or Feeding America.
