M. Virginia Noblet Obituary

M. Virginia “Gini” Noblet, age 90, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday evening, April 11, 2018 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, following a lengthy illness.

Virginia was born in Houghton, Michigan, on August 14, 1927.  She received her primary school education at St. Ignatius.  In 1945, Gini graduated from Houghton High School.  Following her graduation, Virginia studied business at Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On August 19, 1950, Virginia married John Charles Noblet of Houghton, Michigan and he preceded her in death on January 31, 1991. Together, the couple shared 40 years of marriage and raised five children; John, Lynne, Mary, Lori, and Virginia “Gigi.”

When her children were older, Gini took a bookkeeping job at the Maurices clothing store in Escanaba.  She volunteered at the YMCA, the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center, and at the OSF St. Francis Hospital gift shop.

Family has very loving memories of Virginia’s ability to make every occasion special, due to her extraordinary culinary skills and to her attention to detail.  Gini was always proud of her Irish heritage.  She had very fond remembrances of her Irish mother, of her maternal aunt, and of her Grandmother Sullivan Voght. Virginia’s best friend, Mary Lou Merrill, married Richard Noblet (brother of John Charles), and they were sisters-in-law thereafter. Virginia played in a bridge club for several decades and enjoyed getting together with her friends.

For many years, Gini went to mass at St. Anne Church or at St. Anthony Church.

Virginia “Gini Noblet is survived by five children, son, John (Barb) Noblet of Escanaba, MI; John (Emily), Addison and Bella Noblet of Escanaba, MI; Amy (David Kaufman), Lael and Keagan Kaufman of Suamico, WI; Jessica (David) and Nora DeVries of Sedro-Woolley, WA; daughter, Lynne (Vern) Horwitz of Bark River, MI; Joseph (Lauren) Barron of Glen Ellyn, IL; daughter, Mary Smith of Escanaba, MI; James Smith of Escanaba, MI; Alison (Brad), Brenna and Tanner Prey of Green Bay, WI; daughter, Lori Noblet of East Lansing, MI; and daughter, Virginia “Gigi” Noblet of Marquette, MI.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles, and by her parents, Margaret Ann McMahon Voght and Joseph Anthony Voght.
