Lloyd A. Lessard, age 93, of Gladstone, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at U.P. Health System – Marquette surrounded by the many people who loved Lloyd. He was born on May 20, 1929 in Gladstone, the son of Walter and Alma (Sebeck) Lessard. Lloyd was raised and attended school in Gladstone where he was a graduate of Gladstone High School. He began his working career in 1949 with the Michigan Army National Guard Gladstone Armory as the head mechanic and worked for 39 years until his retirement. He then worked for the Soo Line Railroad in Gladstone performing mechanical work. Lloyd married the former Doris Tanner on March 3, 1956 at Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2020. Together, the couple shared 64 years of marriage. Lloyd took great pride in taking care of Doris until she passed away. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone, the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 (past Commander in 1981 & part of Funeral Honor Guard), life member of the Amvets, the Gladstone Yacht Club, and the Gladstone Swedish Club. Lloyd greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially four-wheeling and gardening. Lloyd was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed attending races with his wife, Doris. In his earlier years, Lloyd was active with the U.P. Stockcar Association. Lloyd enjoyed spending time at Northwoods Physical Therapy and became the un-official greeter at the clinic. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Lloyd is survived by his many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alma Lessard; and wife, Doris Lessard.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lloyd will follow with Interim Pastor Terri Branstrom officiating. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum. A social gathering in Lloyd’s honor will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2022 at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71.
