Leota Mae "Doty" Meiers

Leota Mae (Doty) Meiers (Peterson), 88, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River, Michigan, under the compassionate care of the Cedar Hill staff and UAP Hospice.

Doty was born on May 5, 1936, to Rudolph and Iris (Schultz) Peterson in Escanaba, Michigan.  On May 21, 1955 she married her beloved husband, William Meiers Sr., at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Escanaba.  Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage and raised four children.  Doty was the first meter maid in the City of Escanaba and was also an election worker for many years.  In their retirement years, Doty and William enjoyed golfing together and spending winters as snowbirds in Fort Myers, Florida.

She will be deeply missed by her children:  William Meiers Jr., Robert (Karen) Meiers, and Renelle Halverson, her grandchildren Nicholas Meiers, Kyle Meiers, Jayson (Cheryl) Ottensman, Jennifer (Cody) Haglund, David (Lexy) Halverson and Kate Halverson, as well as her nine great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, her son, Michael J. Meiers, and her son-in-law Joel A. Halverson.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Doty Meiers will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Darryl Pepin officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located at the Anderson Funeral Home. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest mausoleum in Wells.  

Doty’s family cherishes the many happy memories they shared with her and will hold them close in their hearts.
