Laverne Lillian (Dyberg) Koski,94, of Rock went to be with her heavenly father and loved ones
who passed before her on January 21,2024 while surrounded by her family. She was born on
March 30,1929 in Milwaukee, Wi to Pearl (Pollari) and Edwin Eric Dyberg. Her mother passed
away during a pregnancy complication when Laverne was 14, leaving Laverne and her father to
run the family’s store and gas station in Trombly, south of Rock. She attended Rock Public
School, where she met her grade school sweetheart- Leo Koski, and graduated in the Class of
1947. She married Leo on Aug 27,1950. Laverne worked as a cashier at Larson Bros. Store in
Rock and later as a secretary at Emco K&K Manufacturing in Rock. Leo and Laverne enjoyed
camping and traveling- they traveled to all lower 48 states. After retirement, they spent their
winters in Lantana, Florida.
The Koski Home was where everyone gathered from large family dinners to local kids after
school. The door was always open. Well into her 90’s, when you visited Laverne you had to take
a seat at her table, let her pour you a cup of coffee and serve you a homemade baked good.
These visits were the highlight of her day.
Laverne was ever present in her community. A member of Faith Lutheran Church and the
church’s WELCA, Harvest Dinner, Wreath-making, and Finnish Mission Circle committees, Rock
American Legion Auxiliary (she was the only living charter member), a 4-H Leader, TOPS club,
bowling league and ladies card club.
Laverne never let the grass grow under her feet. She had a green thumb- she loved tending to
her geraniums, perennials, and raspberry patch. She mowed her own lawn at 94 years of age.
She was a fabulous self taught seamstress. In later years, she loved to attend her great
granddaughter’s sporting events at Mid Pen School and take her place on the bottom bleacher.
She will be missed.
Laverne is survived by: A son, Larry (Roberta) Koski of Streamwood, IL. Daughter Susie (Tom)

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo on January 30,2005, her parents, her in-laws-
Eino and Ina (Seppanen) Koski, her dear aunt- Lillian Flemmang and brother in law, Leslie
Koski.
Laverne always said the trick to a sharp mind and longevity was a daily newspaper crossword
puzzle and a pot of coffee.
