LaVerne Mae McGeary, age 94, of Escanaba passed away Tuesday April 29, 2025 at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba. She was born July 11, 1930 in Escanaba, MI and was the daughter of Carl and Bertha (Wilson) Buckland. LaVerne was raised and attended school in Cornell. The former LaVerne Buckland married John McGeary on November 22, 1952 in Escanaba and together the raised their two daughters Cynthia and Cathleen in their home located in Danforth. John preceded her in death on October 19, 1999. LaVerne worked at many different jobs including the Escanaba Glove Factory, Thompson Bakery and Woolworths. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the deer, spending time with her grandchildren and playing bingo. LaVerne was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone.
LaVerne is survived by daughters Cynthia Zimmer of Escanaba and Cathleen (Richard) Wos of Escanaba; five grandchildren Kevin, Amy, Richard, Megan, and Whitney; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brothers Chuck (Donna) Buckland of Gladstone, John (Barb) Buckland of Kipling and David Buckland of Escanaba and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by sisters Betty Pettersen, Audrey LaChance and Carol Marcum and brother James Buckland.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday May 5, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of LaVerne McGeary will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Aaron Anderson officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located in the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery.
