Kristine Anderson Obituary

Kristine J. Anderson, age 72, of Ford River, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at U.P. Health System – Marquette. She was born on February 9, 1951 in Escanaba, the daughter of Byron and Marilyn Jean (Good) Lindstrom. Later in life, she was adopted by Robert McDonough after Byron’s passing. Kristine was raised and attended school in Escanaba and was a 1969 graduate of Escanaba High School. She went on to further her education and received her teaching degree from St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul, MN. Kristine began her teaching career at Detroit East Catholic and St. Bedes before relocating back to the Upper Peninsula. She was a substitute teacher in the Escanaba schools for many years and finished her working career at Wickert Floral in Escanaba. She married Richard P. Anderson on November 7, 1985 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. The couple shared 37 wonderful years together.

She was proud of her family roots at The Good Farm in Bark River, where her mother and aunts and uncles were raised, and also of their Swedish heritage. She enjoyed family time at the farm and spending it with her “Good” cousins, as they were a close-knit family. Kris was a talented golfer in her younger years at the Escanaba Country Club. She also was an advocate for women’s sports and enjoyed coaching basketball both in Detroit and Escanaba. Possessed of a spirit of caring and heart of gold, you could often find Kris dedicating her time at Bethany Lutheran Church on multiple committees or volunteering help to anything for which it was needed. She was a dedicated Church Council member. Kristine was an enthusiastic traveler who was always up for an adventure. She and Rick looked forward to their camping trips throughout the Upper Peninsula. Kris was a devoted mother and grandmother. She could always be found in the stands, bleachers, and schools supporting all events for her children and grandchildren. Kris found joy in the simple things in life such as her lunch groups. She loved her home on the Ford River, where she was an avid gardener and hosted many family gatherings.

Kris is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Richard P. Anderson of Ford River; children, Kyle (Melanie) Anderson of Jenison, MI, and Kaisa (Jeff) Ives of Bark River, MI; grandchildren, Hope and Noah Anderson, Marissa, Audrey, and Tucker Ives; sister, Nancy (Mark) Miller of Apollo Beach, FL; nieces and nephews; and many close cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Lindstrom, and Robert and Jean McDonough; and beloved aunts and uncles. Recently, she was also preceded in death by her brother, John McDonough; and sister, Molly McDonough Slayton.
