Karen Lee Korpi

Karen Lee Korpi, age 72, of Escanaba formerly of Rock passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at her home in Escanaba. She was born July 22, 1952 in Detroit, MI and was the daughter of Leo and Irene (Lampinen) Korpi. Karen grew up in Orchard Lake, MI, graduated from Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills and then attended Northern Michigan University for one year. She transferred to Oakland University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. She was employed with the Detroit School System as an English teacher, continuing her education at Oakland University receiving her master’s degree in English. Karen retired from teaching in 2014, moved to Rock in 2015 and then to Escanaba in 2021. Karen was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting books.

Karen is survived by her mother Irene, sister Kathleen S. Korpi of Rock; brother James V. Korpi of Rock and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by father Leo Korpi in 2004.

Private services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to Friends of the Escanaba Public Library.
