John "Jack" Beauchamp Obituary

John R. “Jack” Beauchamp, age 90, of Escanaba passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone. He was born August 22, 1933 in Escanaba, MI and was the son of Lawrence and Marguerite (LeDuc) Beauchamp. Jack graduated from Escanaba High School in 1951 and then enlisted into the U.S. Army serving 2 years from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He married the former Sandra Gendzwill on June 26, 1959 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton and together the couple celebrated 64 years of marriage and raised their three children Jeanne, Mike and Julie. Jack started college at Ferris State College and then graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. They moved to Detroit and he was employed with the Internal Revenue Service as a I.R.S. Agent. Jack attended night school, earning his Juris Doctor Law Degree at Wayne State University.  Coming back to his hometown of Escanaba he was elected to the Delta County Prosecuting Attorneys Office serving for one term. He became a partner in the Hansley, Neiman, Peterson and Beauchamp Law Office until his retirement. Jack loved to garden and planted a huge vegetable garden each year. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Escanaba Country Club serving on the planning group to expand to an 18-hole golf club. He enjoyed his poker club and attending Optimist Club meetings. Jack was a faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church serving as an usher, money counter and lector.

John is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Jeanne (Bill) Laakso of Green Bay, WI and Julie (Jim) McLean of Salem, MA; son Mike (Lori) Beauchamp of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Sam Laakso, Maria (Nick) Verheyden, Rockford Beauchamp, McKellin Beauchamp, Sean McLean and Collin McLean; sisters, Patti (Pat) Beck of Nekoosa, WI and Barbara Bartley of Escanaba; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by sisters Judy Lippens and Jane Beauchamp.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Honors will be conducted at 3:15 p.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of John R. Beauchamp will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
