John E. Girardi, age 64, of Gladstone, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at U.P. Health System – Marquette after a short and courageous battle with COVID-19. He was born on July 14, 1956 in Norway, MI, the son of Francis and Marion (Zychowski) Girardi. John was raised and attended school in Norway where he also graduated from Norway High School in 1974. Following graduation, he was employed as a laborer in construction work, mechanical work, and truck driving. John Girardi married the former Debra “Debbie” Irving on December 14, 2002 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 17 years of marriage. John greatly enjoyed the outdoors – especially hunting and spending time at his camp in Vulcan, MI. He also found joy in working on only red tractors (IH) and was involved in tractor pulling for many years. John was an avid football and NASCAR fan and loved his grandchildren dearly.

Girardi is survived by his wife, Debbie Girardi of Gladstone; children, Brad (Rachel) Girardi of Cecil, WI, Melissa Micheau (Lauren Purcell) of St. Paul, MN, Janelle (Dave) Pawling of Pembine, WI, Justin Micheau of Savannah, GA, and Brittany (Kevin) Angsten of Gladstone; 8 grandchildren, Cody, Keeley, Gavin, Dillion, Alex, Charlie, Isla, and Rowyn; 2 brothers, Robert (Ginger) Girardi of Vulcan, and Dan (Jill) Vulcan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Girardi; and his sister, Mary Girardi.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Guests are asked to please enter through the north parking lot doors and exit through the front entrance. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone with Pastor Paul Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow the services. Due to the current mandate, masks and social distancing are required.
