John G. Cavadeas, age 85, of Gladstone, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2022 at his home. He was born on November 24, 1936 in Escanaba, the son of John and Mary (White) Cavadeas. John was raised in Bark River where he also attended school at Bark River Harris High School. Following graduation, John began working for CNW Railroad performing maintenance on the tracks. In 1959, he accepted a position with Harnischfeger Corporation and worked for the company for 27 years until its closure. John then did custodial work at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba until his retirement in 2012. John married the former Charleen Anderson on August 15, 1959 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 62 years of marriage and raised 3 children, Toni, Deanna, and Tim. John always looked forward to spending time at his camp and enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting.
John is survived by his wife, Charleen Cavadeas of Gladstone; children, Toni (Rick) West of Gladstone, Deanna (Jami Pond) Cavadeas of Gladstone, and Tim (Pam) Cavadeas of Gladstone; grandchildren, Bradley (Cassie) Liberty of Gladstone, Mitchel (Patricia) West of Gladstone, Michael Liberty of Escanaba, Paige Cavadeas of Temecula, CA, and Cooper Cavadeas of Appleton, WI, Zach (Nikki) Pond of Gladstone and Bryce Pond of Gladstone; great-grandchildren, Everleigh Liberty, William West, Jaxson Pond, Kylie Pond, Karsyn Pond, and Sawyer Pond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of John will follow at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, with Pastor Mike Markwell and Pastor Richard Hutton as officiants. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the Bethany Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.
