John Marlin Bovin, age 83, passed away at his home on Monday, October 28, 2024. He resided at the Fairview Apartments in Gladstone, MI.
John was born February 21, 1941. He is the son of Carl and Ruth (Hillman) Bovin. John graduated from Gladstone High School and eventually decided to go to Barber school in Detroit. He loved his job and had his own barber shop in Rapid River and then Gladstone. He loved the social aspect as well. He was still cutting hair in his 80s despite finally being retired. John enjoyed taking walks and exercising, dancing, hiking, hunting, fishing, traveling, softball, miniature golf, going out to eat, and spending time with family. His two biggest passions were golfing and playing poker. John befriended many people throughout the years and was always there to help a friend when they were in need. He will always be remembered for having a big heart.
John is survived by his daughter Rebecca Bovin of Escanaba, and sons Jonathan Bovin of Gladstone and Robert Bovin of Clintonville, WI; grandchildren, Eliana Bovin, Cody Bovin, and Aaron Bovin; siblings, Carl (Jeanette) Bovin, Warren (Novelene) Bovin, Scott Bovin, Ruthie (Bob) Anderson, and Elaine Bovin and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loved cat Peanut.
He was preceded in death by his fiancé Connie Gibbons; parents, Carl and Ruth Bovin; brothers, Francis Bovin and Cal Bovin, and sister Dorothy Bovin.
In accordance to his wishes, there will be no services held.
