John A. Clairmont

John Allen Clairmont, Sr., age 87, of Ford River, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at his home. He was born on March 22, 1934 in Escanaba, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Larsen) Clairmont. John was raised and attended school in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1952. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1956. John had 5 children with his first wife, the former Olive Malmstrom. John married the former Joan Charlebois on August 23, 1969 in Escanaba. Together, they had one son. John was employed at Mead Paper Company as an electrician for 49 years until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Gladstone American Legion Post 71, the Delta County Gun Owners Association, and a life member of the National Riffle Association. John loved spending time at his cottage he built himself at Thunder Lake. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed boating.

John Allen Clairmont is survived by his wife, Joan Clairmont of Ford River; children, John (Debbie) Clairmont, Jr. of Soo Hill, Larry (Mike) Clairmont of Detroit, Kim (Matt) Lund of Ford River, Todd (Kathy) Clairmont of Cedar River, Randy (Paula) Clairmont of Marinette, WI,   and Brian Clairmont of Marinette, WI; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Honors will be conducted at 4:45 p.m., Monday, by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Lewis Hague officiating. Those attending the services are encouraged and welcome to wear Green Bay Packer’s attire. A reception will be held at the conclusion of the funeral services at the Ford River Pub in Ford River. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
