Joan Marie Buckland, age 74, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday morning, June 23, 2021 at her home. She was born on August 16, 1946 in Escanaba, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Kluba) Dawson. Joan grew up in Escanaba, attended Holy Name Catholic School through the 11th grade, and graduated from Escanaba High School. The former Joan Dawson married David Buckland on March 14, 1964 in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 57 years of marriage. Joan and David relocated to Flint, MI and lived there for a few years. During this time, she sold Avon. In 1969, they moved back to Escanaba. Joan was employed by the Escanaba VFW as a bartender and later at the Escanaba Library until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, and camping. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Joan Marie Buckland is survived by her husband, David Buckland of Escanaba; children, Brenda Ohman (Robert Martin) of Escanaba, Penny (James) Jensen of Gladstone, Tara (Larry) Jandreau of Champion, and Shannon (Paul) Reynolds of Gladstone; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Snoweart of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by siblings, Clifford, Tom, Paul, Ken, Bud, May, June, Catherine, and Eleanor.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held starting at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Northtown Crown Bar. Food and refreshments will be served.
