Obituary

JoAnn Lee Good, age 87, of Bark River, MI, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River. She was born on October 19, 1935 in Escanaba, the daughter of Joseph and Cecil (Bourdlais) LeFleur. JoAnn was raised and attended school in Bark River where she was a 1954 graduate of Bark River Harris High School. She went on to further her education at Misericordia School of Nursing and obtained her Nursing Degree in 1957. JoAnn worked at VA Woods Hospital in Milwaukee, WI before moving back to Schaffer in 1958. She worked at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba for a couple of years before working at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. The former JoAnn LeFleur married William “Bill” Good on April 18, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schaffer. Together, the couple shared 64 years of marriage and raised 3 sons. In 1965, JoAnn was hired at Bay College in Escanaba as an instructor, teaching students in the nursing department. During this time, she also furthered her education at Northern Michigan University, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and later her Master’s Degree in Nursing. JoAnn greatly enjoyed teaching her passion of nursing to her students at Bay College until her retirement in January of 1996. Over the years, JoAnn was also greatly involved in The Good Family Dairy Farm in Bark River, where she and her husband raised their three boys. She was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Bark River, was a member of MARSP, the Highland Golf Club, loved to travel, went on many cruises, and enjoyed wintering in Englewood, FL with Bill since 1996. JoAnn loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and often looked forward to family gatherings.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Good of Bark River; sons, Greg (Berta) Good of Escanaba, and Bob Good of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughters-in-law, Mary (Craig) Schmelzer and Wendy (Scott) Ball; grandchildren, Michele (Bob) Flynn, Brian Good, Brittany (Brian) Wray, and Sam Good; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Simon, Luke, and Samantha Flynn; 1 step-grandson; 2 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Jean Hodgins of Riverland, Betty Konnak of Ann Arbor, MI, and Patricia Schaffer of Bark River; brother, Joseph (Carol) LeFleur, Jr. of Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Doug Good; and infant daughter.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m., Friday, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Bark River with Father Darryl J. Pepin officiating. A meal will be held at the conclusion of the services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Bark River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be directed to the William and JoAnn Good Scholarship Fund at Bay College.
