Jeffrey Barrett Obituary

Jeffrey Barrett, age 75, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday morning, November 4, 2021 at St. Jude’s Assisted Living in Escanaba. He was born on March 15, 1946 in Flint, MI, the son of Luther and Barbara “Connie” Barrett.

Jeffrey was a living miracle.  Born with a condition called hydrocephalus, Jeffrey was not expected to live past the age of 3. Treatment for this condition in the 1940’s was very limited.  Jeffrey defied all odds and lived a full life.  Every day of his life was a true gift!

Jeffrey was a working man.  It was always very important to him to be productive and helpful.  For many years he was employed at the Delta Plaza in Escanaba, where he worked as a custodian. He took great pride in his work and loved to share all of the important duties he was responsible for.  After he retired, Jeffrey’s desire to be helpful shined at his residence, St Jude’s. He was not one to sit idle when there was work to be done. Jeffrey enjoyed helping out whenever possible by sweeping and cleaning up in the dining area and assisting fellow residents and staff members.

To know Jeffrey was to love him. He was a very gentle and compassionate man who cared deeply for others and enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed taking trips to see his family and proudly displayed every picture ever received of his family on every surface of his bedroom. He took great pleasure in spending time with his special friend, Anita, and enjoyed many afternoons shopping with her at Walmart and stopping at McDonald’s for chicken nuggets. He loved listening to music and had an extensive collection of country CDs and Elvis albums. He was a faithful fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers. He loved the Family Inn’s meatloaf lunch. He was a dog whisperer and always had a box of treats ready to share with any four-legged visitors. He adored teasing the staff at St Jude’s and the reactions he got from them when they would tease him back. He was proud to be a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to all who took the time to know him.

Jeffrey is survived by his brother, James (Mary) Barrett of Denmark, WI; sister, Sally L. Martin of Mechanicsburg, PA; nieces, Bonnie Levy of Denmark, WI, and Stacy (Nathan) Mains of Mechanicsburg, PA; nephew, Brian Barrett (Ann) of Madison, WI; great nieces, Hannah and Megan Levy, Allison and Katherine Barrett, and Sophie Mains; and his very special friend, Anita Krackowski of Escanaba.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Connie Barrett; and his nephew, Todd Levy.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jeffrey will follow at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, with Rev. Ryan Low Edwardson officiating. Masks would be appreciated. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
