Jeanne M. Roberts

Jeanne M. Roberts, age 91, of Escanaba, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born on December 17, 1928 in Calumet, MI, the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Blom) Olsen. Jeanne was raised in the Marquette area and was a 1946 graduate of Graveraet High School in Marquette. She went on to further her education at Northern Michigan University where she received her B.A. and Master’s Degree. The former Jeanne Olsen married Clyde Roberts on August 5, 1950 in Marquette and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1999. Together, the couple shared 48 years of marriage and raised 3 children, Kay, Peggy, and Kirk. Jeanne worked as an elementary teacher in both Champion, MI and Detroit, MI for many years until she and Clyde relocated to Escanaba. She then was employed for 20 years as a special reading teacher for Escanaba until her retirement in 1994. Jeanne was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba, was involved with the YMCA water aerobics, the Choral Society, the Friends of the Library, and was a founding member of the Alano Club. She was an avid reader who loved lending out her books to others. Words were Jeanne’s passion and she worked on crossword puzzles daily. Jeanne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Jeanne M. Roberts is survived by her children, Kay (Michael) Pryal of Escanaba, Peggy Jeanne Roberts of Atlanta, GA, and Kirk Edward Roberts of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Greg Pryal of De Pere, WI, and David Pryal of Rochester, MI (Dominique Bougie); great-granddaughters, Jaida, Arianna, Layla Pryal, and future Baby Pryal due in March of 2021; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Olsen of Dearborn Heights, MI.

Due to the current mandate, masks and social distancing are requested. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jeanne will follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elise Low-Edwardson officiating. Burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be directed to Central United Methodist Church or the YMCA Scholarship Fund.
