Janet Marie Tolman, age 81, of 2116 7th Avenue South in Escanaba, passed away Saturday morning, March 30, 2019 at her home. She was born on September 30, 1937 in Escanaba, the daughter of Wilfred and Minnie (King) Cole. Janet was raised in Kipling and graduated from Gladstone High School in 1956. The former Janet Cole married Warren Tolman on September 14, 1957 at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. Together, the couple shared 61 years of marriage and raised 4 children, Steve, Tim, Debbie, and Patti. Throughout her lifetime, Janet was employed as a waitress at various restaurants in the area including the Busy B Cafe in Gladstone, the Spars Restaurant in Escanaba, and the Village Inn in Escanaba. Janet enjoyed meeting new people and found joy in making others smile. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba where she was strong in her faith. Janet enjoyed traveling, baking cookies and pasties, and spending time with her family and friends.
Janet Marie Tolman is survived by husband, Warren Tolman of Escanaba; sons, Steve (Barb) Tolman of Escanaba, and Tim (Chris) Tolman of Sheboygan Falls, WI; daughters, Debbie (Randy) Hamilton of Gladstone, and Patty (Dean) LaCrosse of Hartland, WI; grandchildren, Jennifer Hamilton, Cody Hamilton (fiancé Cassidy), Lucas (Ali) LaCrosse, Alex (Harley) LaCrosse, and Jacob LaCrosse; step-grandchildren, Mike Stroy, Matthew Stroy, and Michelle Stroy; great-grandchildren, Owen Howell, Astraea LaCrosse, and Norah Hamilton; step-great-grandchildren, Pearl Stroy, Lily Stroy, Tiberias Stroy, Jade Stroy, Patience Stroy; in-laws, Alice Johnson, Orvella Sedenquist, Nancy (Ted) Broders, Sr., Charlotte Peterson, and Phyllis Tolman; good friends, Rosemary Berglund, and Lee and Jan Robitaille; many nieces and nephews; and her kitty, Storm.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brothers, Dick and Robert Cole; grandson, Brian Posenke; mother and father-in-law, Orville and Mary Tolman; brothers-in-law, Mearl Tolman, Ron Johnson, and Gary Sedenquist; and cousin, Nancy Duchaine.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Janet will follow at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the St. Anne Catholic Church fellowship hall.
