James L. Johnson, age 85, of Brampton passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, WI. He was born on November 9, 1937 in Bayview MI, the son of Edwin and Beda (Swanson) Johnson. Jim was raised and attended school in Gladstone graduating with the class of 1955. Jim then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving from January 11, 1956 until he was honorably discharged on January 10, 1960. He married the former Iris Bonno, November 16, 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. The couple together shared 53 years of marriage and raised two children Steven and Susanne. Iris preceded Jim in death on August 1, 2021. Jim started his working career with Alger Delta Cooperative, later with Harnischfeger Corporation. He then went to work for Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Gladstone, working as a switchman until his retirement 1993. After his retirement, he and his wife, Iris, purchased Sharon’s Pasties, changing the name to Gram’s Pasty. They sold Gram’s Pasty Shop a few years later. Jim was a good story teller and had a witty sense of humor and always had great come backs! He also enjoyed playing dart ball for the Bungalow Bar.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Susanne (William, Jr.) Dubord of Gladstone; son, Steven (April) Johnson of Gladstone; 8 grandchildren, Alexander, Derek, Michael, Desiree, Dylan, Stephanie, Rebecca and William, III.; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by grandson, Samuel Larson; and siblings, Mason, Fred, Roger and David “Bucko” Johnson and Helene “Dolly” Thibeault.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Gladstone American Legion Post #71. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jim will follow the military services with Rev. Steve Cowen officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Anderson Funeral Home fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery.
