James Sutton Davidson, III, age 76, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born on June 9, 1946 in Escanaba, MI to James Sutton Davidson, Jr. and Merelyn Gloria (Weir) Davidson. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1964 and went on to work at several locations throughout Escanaba. He was employed at the Original Sub Shop while still in high school and then at Anderson Bloom in downtown Escanaba, Team Electronics, and finally, Manatron, Inc. He married the former Connie Funke in 1987 and they were married for 35 years before her passing on March 12, 2022.
Jim was an avid Packer fan who attended the infamous “Ice Bowl” with his father. In his younger years, he loved to snowmobile, hunt, spend time at the family cottage, and was involved in racing as a pitman for Bob Hengesh. He traveled out west to ski, attended races in Lake Geneva for many years, and enjoyed bartending at Baron’s Bar. He loved to go camping with his family and had taken many cruises with his beloved wife. He was involved in the Remnants Barbershop Chorus for many years before health issues prevented him from continuing. Jim took on his role as stepfather with enthusiasm and loved spending time with his grandkids. The family is very grateful to Tracy for her dedication and care for Jim over the years.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Funke and Tammy Hansen (Todd Burbach); sister, Linda (Jim) Beauchamp; brother, Steve Davidson; grandchildren, Madison Ide, Nikki Swette (Chris), and Kyle Hansen; great-granddaughter, Hailee Swette; brothers-in-law, Glen Heikkinen (Tina) and Dennis Heikkinen (Jenny); sister, Cindy Wheeler (Jim); uncle, Phil Davidson (Ann); aunt, Judy Davidson; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Davidson; and nephew, Sutton James.
At Jim’s request, no services will be held. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gayla, Travis, and Lucas at Gentle Hands for their dedication to Jim’s care over the last months and UPHS Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion these last few weeks.
