Helen Jane Thompson

Helen Jane Thompson, age 91, formerly of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born on February 26, 1928 in St. Nicholas, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Erickson) LaChapelle. Jane was a graduate of Escanaba High School and furthered her education at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. She was employed for many years as a benefits authorizer by the Social Security Administration. The former Helen Jane LaChapelle married George W. Thompson on August 30, 1952 in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared many wonderful years of marriage. Jane loved her family more than anything and took pride in caring for her parents. She was a math wiz that would practice calculus at her dining room table – even during her last days. Jane loved to teach and took any opportunity she could to help others. She was a hard worker and took pride in everything she did. Jane loved all of the friends she made throughout the years.

Helen Jane Thompson is survived by her son, Robert (Judith) Taylor of Adams, WI; grandsons, Joseph “Andy” (Kim) Taylor of Belvidere, IL, and Adam (Jennifer) Taylor of Kirkland, IL; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Meagan, Nicholas, Emily, Savanna, Rachel, and Jackson.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hannah LaChapelle; and husband, George W. Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Helen will follow at 11:00 a.m., Friday, in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Meyette officiating.
