Grace M. Johnson

Grace M. Johnson, age 94, formerly of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, WI. She was born on April 13, 1928 in Kingsford, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Christine (Nichol) Blazek. The family moved around frequently between the UP and Chicago to follow work opportunities for her father and nursing jobs for her mother. Grace was a graduate of Escanaba High School. Following graduation, one of her first jobs was at Delta Hardware in Escanaba. The former Grace Blazek married Harvey G. Johnson on December 4, 1948 in Escanaba and together had three children. Early in their marriage, Harvey and Grace lived in White Pine, eventually moving to Green Bay, WI in the late 1950’s where she was a homemaker, caring for her family and square dancing with her husband. After the children were raised, Grace went on to further her education and attended Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC). She accepted a position as an office manager with Weyerhaeuser Corp in Green Bay before moving to New Jersey and working at Novartis where she worked until her retirement. Some of her favorite hobbies were playing cribbage, crocheting & knitting, bingo, and gardening.

Grace is survived by her children, Leif (Patricia) Johnson of Cypress, TX, Kristin Johnson of Stoughton, WI, and Laura MacLeod of Appleton, WI; 2 grandchildren, Ashley Johnson and Kari Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Grace was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph (Jarvis) and Dale (Gilbert) Blazek.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Grace will follow at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, with Rev. Mike Markwell officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will take place in Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Agrace Hospice in Madison, WI for the care and compassion given to Grace.
