Geraldine “Geri” C. DeGraves, age 61, of Rapid River, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 21, 2021 at home surrounded by family. She was born on January 22, 1960 in Denver, CO, the daughter of Alex Salazar and Lilly Hernandez. Geri was raised in the Denver, CO area and relocated to Rapid River in 1987. During this time, she attended Bay de Noc Community College and received her Associates in Broadcasting Degree. Geri worked in the hospitality and sales industry for most of her life. She owned and operated Reflections Restaurant for 10 years, was employed by Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba where she worked in the kitchen, and lastly was a driver for DATA Bus until she became too ill to work. Geri was very instrumental in starting the Gladstone Women’s Pool League and was a longtime member as an avid pool player. She loved rock and roll, was a huge sports fan, cooking and baking brought her great joy, was a fromage enthusiast, she enjoyed gardening and canning, and loved telling stories.
Geri C. DeGraves is survived by her sons, Deaconblue (Valerie) Batchelor of Phoenix, AZ, and Brendan Ballas of Rapid River; daughter, Hannah (Alex) Olthoff of Lansing, MI; step-children, Tuesday DeGrave of Escanaba, Jason DeGraves of Phoenix, AZ, Amy DeGraves of Iron Mountain, MI, and Nathan DeGraves of Florida; 21 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Katherine Martinez of Denver, CO, William Lee (Marlene) Dominguez of Trinidad, CO, Daisy Mae (Ruben) Bermudez of Denver, CO, Anna (Larry) Graham of Plattsburg, MO, Marie Dunn of Crescent, IA, and Felicia Rubles of Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews; and boyfriend, Matt Gagnier.
In addition to her parents, Geri was preceded in death by her spouse, Tex DeGraves; step-daughter, Michelle DeGraves; grandson, Mitchell DeGrave; brothers, Michael Dominguez, and Ross Dominguez; and in-laws, Wilbert and Doris DeGrave.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Geri will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the place Geri had a passion for, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
