Gerald “Don” Donald Calouette, age 85, of Gladstone (Lake Bluff), passed away Tuesday evening, December 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 25, 1936 in Escanaba, the son of Chester and Margaret (Gunter) Calouette. Don was raised in Escanaba and was a 1954 graduate of Escanaba High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War for 4 years until he was honorably discharged. After returning home, Don went to work for Teal’s Evergreens until he moved to Rockford, IL performing machine work. Don married the former Sharon Richards on October 12, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 58 years of marriage and raised 7 children. In 1969, the family moved back to Escanaba. Don worked for Eaton Yale before purchasing Marble Arms in 1976. He owned and operated the business until his retirement in 1994. Don loved spending time at his camp in east Rock. His family always came first as they meant the world to him.
Don Calouette is survived by his wife, Sharon Calouette of Gladstone; children, Sandra Carlson of Gladstone, Sheryl Schultz of Gladstone, Suzanne Gardiner of Escanaba, James (Rebecca) Calouette of Gladstone, Sally (Phillip) Sarasin of Gladstone, Patricia (Cory) Corwin of Gladstone, and Thomas (Elaine) Calouette of Union Grove, WI; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, John (Joan) Calouette of Escanaba; sister, Joan Lee Stevenson of Gladstone; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Teal; and brothers, Robert and Mike Calouette.
Private funeral services will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
