Gerald Potvin Obituary

Gerald G. Potvin, age 87, of Wells, MI, passed away Friday evening, January 28, 2022 at the home of his loving daughter, Debbie Potvin. He was born February 21, 1934 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI to parents Alfred and Marge (Call) Potvin. Gerald was raised and attended school in Escanaba and graduated from high school in 1952. During the summers as a young man, he worked on the ore boats and traveled the Great Lakes. In 1955, he married his loving wife, Elizabeth Bakran and they spent 61 years of marriage together.

Gerald was employed by Mead Paper Company and worked on the number four paper machine for many years. After his retirement from Mead Paper, he worked at Appleton Wire for several more years until his final retirement. Gerald loved to hunt and spend time at his camp socializing with his neighbors. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and telling jokes.

Gerald is survived by his daughters, Vicky (Edward) Giguere of Escanaba, and Debbie Potvin of Marinette, WI; grandchildren, Jaime (Jason) McCarthy, and Paul (Nicole) Gregorie; great-grandchildren, Isla and Ellie McCarthy, and Pryce and Kasen Gregorie; brother-in-law, John (Judy) Bakran; and sisters-in-law, Ann Goodreau and Edith Bakran.

Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Potvin; parents, Alfred and Marge Potvin; brothers-in-law, Steven, Frank, Rudy, Tom, Joe Bakran, Bud Servant, Bill Ferrari, and Bob Goodreau; sisters-in-law, Mary Bakran, Jane Ferrari, and Patti Servant.

For the last five years, Gerald lived with his daughter, Debbie Potvin in Marinette, WI. On a daily basis she was his cook, housekeeper, health warrior, and nurse.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at St. Anthony of Padua in Wells with Father Rick Courier officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
