Francis Emil Dittrich

Francis Emil Dittrich of Gladstone, Michigan, age 95, passed away in the comfort of his home on the morning of June 15, 2024. Franny was born to Otto and Rose (Posenke) Dittrich in their family home in Hyde, MI. where he was raised and worked on the family farm. He attended Porath School and after graduating, Franny enlisted in the United States Army, proudly and courageously serving his flag and country during the Korean War.

After his honorable discharge, Franny returned home and married Vivian, the love of his life, on May 4, 1957. They were happily married for fifty-six years, before her passing on December 28, 2013.

Franny worked for the Mead Paper Company as a forklift operator, which he retired from after 35 years.

Franny loved many things in life—playing cards, gardening, and mastering the art of woodworking. He was a faithful and devoted servant to his Lord, Jesus Christ and walked with him daily and was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Franny will be remembered as a loving husband and a proud father, a wonderful brother and uncle, and dear friend to many. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.

Franny is survived by his son David Dittrich; grandson Austin Dittrich; special nephew and niece Bill (Kathy) Gartland; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved members of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Vivian (Dausey) Dittrich; and sons Gary and Dennis Dittrich; brothers, Ronald, Clarence, Carl, and Roger Dittrich; and sisters Florence Blake and Edna Kremer.

There will be a time of visitation from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2200 Ludington Street, Escanaba, MI 49829. Military honors will be presented by the United States Army at 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service. Pastor Paul Doletzky will be officiating.

Franny will be laid to rest in West Ford River Cemetery, Hyde, MI.
