Evelyn Mae Hynes-Gould, age 92, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday morning, June 20, 2020 at her apartment in Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born on March 29, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Elmer and Belle (Kirkpatrick) Champion. Mae lived in Escanaba most of her life where she also attended school. She graduated from Marinette High School in 1946 and went on to further her education at Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba. The former Evelyn Mae Champion married Allen J. Hynes on May 10, 1947 and he preceded her in death in December of 1973. Together, the couple shared 26 years of marriage. Mae was employed at various businesses in the area including P&H as a secretary, UPCAP, the City of Escanaba in the clerk’s office, and lastly with the Federal Government in the Social Security Administration as a service representative for 16 years until her retirement in 1988. On January 16, 1994, Mae married Frederick “Fritz” Gould in Weslaco, TX and he preceded her in death in April of 2013. Together, the couple shared 19 years of marriage. In her retirement years, Mae owned a knitting shop in her home, Knits North, enjoyed quilting, going to water aerobics as a member of the YMCA, enjoyed traveling, and wintering in Weslaco, TX. She also was an avid speed skater from the young age of seven. Mae was a member of the Highland Golf Club where she played in Ladies League for several years, was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, RC Hathaway Chapter 49 of Escanaba and was Worthy Matron from 1979-1980, was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Escanaba and sang in the choir for many years.

Evelyn Mae Hynes-Gould is survived by her children, Mary Destrampe of New London, WI, Shireen (Thomas) McLaughlin of Gladstone, Allen (Patty) Hynes of Neenah, WI, and Carla (Rodney) Lanaville of Ford River; stepchildren, Corrine Riley of North Mankato, MN, and Brian (Lori) Gould of Hugo, MN; grandchildren, Alicia (Erik) Standerfer, Kevin (Allison) McLaughlin, Nichole Lanaville, Colin (Kristin) McLaughlin, Jacob (Cassie) Lanaville, Allen Hynes III, Chad Hynes, Seth (Crystal) Riley, Kelsey Riley, and Emily Gould; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, Mae was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tara Grant; sons-in-law, Gerald Destrampe and Tom Riley; sister, Joyce Doucette; brother-in-law, Norman Doucette; and nephews, John (Billy) Doucette and Tony Erickson.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mae will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, with Rev. Ryan Edwardson officiating. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be directed to the Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank The Sisters at the Bishop Noa Home and caregivers, Laurie, Millie, Krystyna, and others from Gentle Hearts and Hands for the loving care and compassion they gave to Mae.
